Travel Route: HBF – Wansee – Potsdam

Route 8 includes the Berliner Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Central Station), Wannsee and Potsdam. The city’s core districts are connected through three ways, urban public transport in the form of an S Bahn Line, waterways and cycling. The three sites respectively represent urban historical and cultural landscapes.

The Berlin Central Station is surrounded by leisure, sports and mixed use facilities. Wannsee is a locality in the southwestern Berlin borough of Steglitz – Zehlendorf that is mostly visited for the lake and leisure opportunities. Lastly, Potsdam is the capital city of Brandenburg, located in the southwest border of Berlin and displays a major growth center.

The project explores the possibility of rebranding Berlin: With the tourism industry growing, Wannsee and Potsdam are to be turned into touristic destinations that are easily reached through the Central Station.

The tender examines Berlin’s nature conservation areas, the natural water system, the cycling routes and the public transport in order to frame a scenario for 2040.

The goal is connect the city with the people and nature. In the case of the Central Station, the project imagines a welcoming plaza and mixed use area for tourists and commuters, sustainable housing for millennials and alternative public transportations as a new form of mobility. Based on tourism led development Wannsee and Potsdam use the natural und urban landscape respectively to promote the overall regional development.
